  • Drainage Area: 13,756 Square Miles (7,660 in Alabama; 6,096 in Mississippi)
  • Major Land Uses: forestry, agriculture (pasture, crops)
  • Includes all or parts of 13 Alabama counties
  • Major Impoundments in Alabama - Aliceville, Gainesville and Demopolis
  • Originates in northwest Mississippi, flowing through eastern Mississippi and western Alabama
  • Joined by the Black Warrior River at Demopolis
  • Becomes the Mobile River at its confluence with the Alabama River
  • Drains to Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico
  • Tenn-Tom Waterway connection allows access from Gulf of Mexico to Tennessee River (Pickwick Reservoir) and beyond
